10 Things to Remember

It’s been almost a year since I graduated from college. Almost one whole year of being in the real world, yet at 22 I am still learning every day. Sometimes I wish I could go back in time and talk to the 18 year old me and tell her how important certain things are, instead, I’ll tell you.

Stay curious.
This is so very important. I’ll never forget my grandfather telling me this when I was in high school. Then I shrugged it off as a simple comment but now I know just how serious he was when he said it. Curiosity leads to new adventures and new people. It opens the doors to learning which is one of the most important things to constantly do no matter how old you are.
People will come and go.
I have always been one to care deeply about the people in my life. I hold my family on a high standard and normally I consider my friends family. Because of this I found myself let down when people chose to walk away instead of be there as much as I would be. If I would have realized then what I know now I would have saved myself a lot of time wondering why someone would stop being there.
Don’t let people’s opinions affect your decisions.
People are always going to judge you. They are going to form their own opinions on what you do and they will definitely make sure to tell you what they think. Don’t let them change your mind. Do what is best for you because in the end their opinion means shit in the long run.
Stay true to who you are.
In conjunction with my last point, people are also going to try to change you. To mold you into what they think you should be. Don’t let them do it. If you change for someone else you will lose yourself and when you lose yourself its never a good thing.
Loneliness isn’t always a bad thing
Im 22 and I still have trouble with this one. Loneliness is a feeling that will eat you up and spit you out all at once but allowing it to consume you isn’t healthy. Sometimes loneliness can teach you something. It can give you time to focus on yourself. Try to remember that whenever you feel down.
Happiness means everything.
Focus on happiness. It might sound dumb to you now but I promise you if you constantly think about being happy it will get you out of dark places.
Always be grateful
Life has a crazy way of changing on a dime so always be thankful for the time you’re given and the things you have. Gratefulness will get you far.
Be a true friend.
People are quick to call people their best friends, but many forget the qualities that make a true friend true. Be there for everything, the good and the bad, the happy moments and the shitty ones. People will remember that.
Have fun.
You’ll never be this young again so take this time to try new things and make new memories. When you’re you 70 you wont remember days you sat at home, you’ll remember the time you laughed until you peed yourself.
Strive to be better.
Never ever stop trying to better yourself. When you stop doing that you stop growing. No matter how good you think you are you can always do more. Remind yourself that everyday.

Life gets hard, I wont ever lie about that. By reminding myself of these points it helps me learn things from tough situations. Maybe it can help some of you too.
