Stop Making Excuses
In my last post I briefly mentioned about how I get in my own way of accomplishing my dreams. After I wrote that I started to think about how its more common than not for people my age to do the same thing. But why? Why are we so scared to make a wrong move? It's almost like we've all become so comfortable with our day to day routines that the idea of failing stops us in our tracks.
I have friends who moved across country, others who abruptly quit their jobs to do what they loved and then here I am almost stuck in a routine that seems unbreakable. I have so many things that I want to do. I want to help people. I want to learn from other people's situations. I want to put my name on something and be proud of it. I want to travel the world. Most importantly I want to embrace each day for everything it's worth. During college I used these things as motivators to get through my course work but once I graduated I kind of lost sight of what I really wanted. I started thinking more about what others expected of me and less about what I expected from myself. Now, I know, thats where I lost myself.
Maybe some of you can relate. Are you truly happy doing what your doing everyday? Do you go to work excited or do you go to work because you have to? Are you truly happy in your relationship or are you in love with the idea of being in love? If you are in love, are you and your partner supporting each other as much as you could be?
As dumb as it sounds, now is the time for us to be selfish. We need to start living each day as if it really is our last and take advantage of the opportunities that are given to us. Whats the worst that could happen, you fail? Who cares? To get anywhere in life you have to fail more than once. How else would we learn anything. I'm not saying we should all quit our jobs tomorrow, but I encourage you to at least try to do one thing a day that will get you closer to accomplishing one of your goals. Remember we're twenty-something with our whole lives ahead of us so stop making excuses and get out there.
