Twenty-something and Grateful

This morning was one of those wonderful mornings when everything seemed quiet and for a few precious minutes I was able to sit in the stillness and process my thoughts. It was in that wonderful silence that I realized just how grateful I am to be where I am in my life, surrounded by the people who I’m lucky enough to call friends and family. Then my phone buzzed and I was brought back to reality with a flurry of sarcastic texts. But seriously, as a twenty-something I realize it’s easy to get caught up in things going on around us, but why do most of us forget to remind ourselves to be thankful for everything?
I may be a clueless 22 year old but I’m healthy, living in a beautiful area, with the opportunity to do pretty much anything in my next step. So why do I let my anxiety about planning what’s to come next stop me from enjoying the moment? I’ve also learned how important good friends are to have. I consider myself very lucky to have such supportive, caring and driven friends that I do. Yes, we may be a bunch of assholes, but every single one of my friends has a heart of gold and have proven that they’d do anything to help anyone, and for that I am forever grateful.
If 2014 has taught me anything so far, it’s that things can change in the blink of an eye so its important to embrace every moment that you’re lucky enough to experience. Take the time to sit and watch the sunset, your work can wait. Next time you see a friend let them know how important they are to you, because good friends are hard to come by. Taking the time to do these things will not only help you get more out of life, but it could also change how someone else looks at their own.

Today is a good day.
