body talk
Lets talk about something that no one likes to talk about; our bodies. Earlier this year I was
featured on healthyisthenewskinny.com to discuss how the media affects our
perception of our body. It was freeing to openly talk about one of my biggest
insecurities, and the response from people I didn’t even know was amazing. But
I still feel like talking about our bodies is taboo, almost crazy, and that
simply shouldn’t be how it is.
I know I have come a
long way from the insecure middle school girl who literally allowed people to
walk all of her because she felt like being ignored was better than being made
fun of. I’m not that person any more, but I still fight off thoughts of not
being good enough everyday. When you look different than the ideal ( I’d love to
have a body of an Olympic volleyball player but honestly this ass isn’t going
anywhere) knowing your self worth is something that you have to remind yourself
of everyday. Because of my past I built
walls that are truly hard to break down, but I’m working on it, and that’s more
important than anything.
As a twenty-something woman who is finally comfortable in my
own skin I want to make it a priority to help others see the beauty within
themselves. So the next time you feel like your hips are too big, or your boobs
are too small or that your skin isn’t perfect, know that you are beautiful,
unique and cared for. Know that I am in your corner, cheering you on. Know that
you are good enough.
xx
